V&B #8

I have taken many online classes while living in Georgia. They were very handy beings I was working fulltime on midnights. The only problem I had with some of the classes was that there was no lecture so pronunciation of certain words was a problem. One of the history classes I had was taught very well for being online. He gave us weekly lectures through powerpoint which did help a great deal because he would also explain assignments.

Slaves in the Civil War V&B Teachertube

This was a video found on teachertube.com. It has some interesting facts that are not normally seen on the civil war. It is about the slave regiments that fought for the union.

V&B Slidshare

The Civil War Tutorial was very interesting and full of good information. The beginning gives a good introduction to what it is about. This could be used as a good template for teachers to use while teaching about the Civil War.

The teacher that I have seen use software in an inovative way was Dr. McMahon from Georgia Perimeter College. I took an online history class from him. He was able to use powerpoint and another program that he would record a 30-45 min. lecture everyweek for us to listen to and take notes from. It kept the class very interesting.

The website I found was plato.com. This was software that can be used for either elementry or secondary students. They use this software for distance learning. The cool statistics they have was that a county that implemented use of this software had their graduation rate go from 65% ti 85% when it was put in. As we see more and more technology used there could be a huge need for this type of software.

AACE- Association for the Advancement of Computers in Education
AACE was an interesting site. The AACE is very commited to helping teachers become more computer illiterate. The money that people pay for memberships goes to pay for researchers, developers and practitioners. This seems like they are heading in right direction to helping education become better and to keep up witht the times. Memberships come with different publications to help with computers in Education and being able to attend the conventions.

AECT - Association for Education Communications and Technology
The AECT is based on 4 goals that they wish to obtain. #1 - Define the disciplines and professional activities that comprise the field of educational communications and technology. #2 - Serve and represent professionals in the field and support professional growth. #3 - Advance scholarship and practice that contribute to and enlarge the knowledge base of the field. #4 - Promote policies that ensure the humane and ethical use of educational communications and technology at all levels, from the personal through the international. Their goals show their commitment to education and what the association stands for.

ISTE - International Society for Technology in Education
ISTE is very commited to helping teachers use technology to help in the classroom. ISTE tries to obtain its goals through knowledge generation, professional development, and advocacy. The ISTE tries to keep close touch with their members and let them in on the studies they do through their journals and periodicals.

ITEA - International Test and Evaluation Association
The ITEA uses their technology through Tests and Evaluation. They do post some of the publications online. They publish their Journal themes and allow people to do research and write journals and have the ability to get them published in their magazine.

Interesting to see how copyrighting has become so huge. At least some people are willing to share useful information through cc. This will be very effective money saver and still will make things available to everyone. This will allow new ideas to be taught and shown to students. As educators this is good because it can be used by all educators and the students are really the people who can profit the most from them.

LEARN NC
This is a great website to view ideas for teaching. This includes lesson plans, blogs from real teachers and it even covers an area of specking. Very interesting lots of information for futre educators.

THE JOURNAL
The Journal seems to be a very good website to keep up to date with the new news in the world of education. Along the side it has new articles written about other school systems that are trying new things and companies that are coming out with new software or programs.

BLUE WEB'N
This is a site that can keep teachers up to date on new websites designed for education. In blue web'n the sites that they choose are to help with classroom instruction. This will be very helpful for grabbin new ideas in the future.

TURNER LEARNING
Very good website for teachers trying to learn more about their students. If teachers are looking for a way to find out what kids care about this is the site to go to. It is based around students and what they are interested in what is happening in the world today.

TRACKSTAR
This is a website for teachers to share their lesson plans or for teachers to get ideas to use with their students. There is a search to find lessons by specific people or by finding certain subjects that they are trying to teach.

TOM SNYDER PRODUCTIONS
This site was really cool. There are plenty of programs for computer interaction to help kids learn. The best part about it is that it has stuff for every subject, math, social studies, science. It also has stuff for teachers and professional development.

SOFTWARE EXPRESS
This site was a lot like the Tom Snyder Productions. It had many more programs to choose from than the other site though. The programs sold were broken down even further because of this and made it much easier to find specific areas that somebody would be looking for.

CDE - COLORADO DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION
More basic concepts listed here. Not very exciting to view this site. I thought it was way too basic and needs an overhall to get people to go to this site. Good information but it is like looking at a text book.

FREE
Very cool to help teachers with making powerpoints and getting information for class. Need to keep this site because it will be a really handy tool for integrating technology into the classroom. This site keeps up with other great sites and quick links to more information than a teacher could teach in a given year.

CU vs. CSU

Another exciting game, but the underdog Rams could not pull it off. Although they showed promise for this season, special team seemed to be the achiles. Welcome back Kyle Bell, looks like he is better than when he left. He did not avoid tacklers, but instead took them on. Johnny Walker and Kory Sperry also looked great.

You may serve your time, but you are still a Felon

Mr. Vick,
You may serve your sentence, but tell me this how many other jobs other than professional sports can you come back to after being charged with a felony. Most jobs that people work at their whole lives we see them keep clean to just keep a job. Shame on the NFL if they ever let you back in. With the amount of money athletes get paid they should be treated any normal worker that is convicted. This does not just land with Mr. Vick. Mr. Tank Johnson, Mr. Little and many others have commited crimes that would land them in the unemployment line. Hopefully the NFL will finally start setting standards of the lifestyles of the people they employ just like the rest of the fortune 500 companies around the world.
